These nighttime markets just outside Ubud are locals-only. You may find a few tentative foreigners looking for a fun, cheap meal (like us), but mostly it's locals stopping in for something to eat and do on their way home from work.

The stalls serve up treats for the equivalent of an Australian dollar or two, from peanut rice with stirfried greens in coconut with tomato sambal sauce, to deep fried bananas to babi guling (local pork dish) to some very interesting-looking bright green waffles.

This is a place to look around with eyes and taste buds wide open. After your meal, wander the stalls selling non-food items and share smiles and words with friendly local Balinese.
