This is a three hour return hike through the bush - feet crunch on dry leaves, the sun beats down with scrubby trees all around, it's hot hot heat the whole way.
At the end of the trail you'll walk inside a cave. Hoist yourself up through the gap in the rocks overhead and emerge at a gorge with water running through, an oasis in the bush. Strip down, swim and explore the waterfalls and streams.
After your hike, stop in at Rathdowney or Beaudesert for lunch at a local pub.
p.s. Drive 1.5 hours south-west of Brisbane, setting your GPS for the Lower Portals, park your car and begin your hike.
