People need trees. In a city like Paris, where the lawns are manicured to perfection and you're definitely not allowed to walk on them, where you spend your life underground riding the metro between arrondissements, where the great indoors – pretty museums, beautiful boutiques, warm coffee shops – are your domain, it's nice to escape to the outdoors.

The Bois de Vincennes sits out on the Eastern edge of Paris; on the way from the metro, there's also the Chateau de Vincennes, the Parc de Floral and a few other things to see out here. We spent a lazy Sunday out here, warm for a December day, hugging trees, wandering aimlessly with no one around and getting our feet dirty, the perfect remedy for a little too much of the city life in Paris.
