A friend living locally showed us to this natural wonderland in the late afternoon hours of a sunny Saturday. The water's as black as tar on the surface. As you glide in, the water changes to a deep brown, coloured by the native tea trees framing the lake, giving their healing elixir to the water. Tea tree oil is known as a something of a magical cure, boosting the immune system and blood circulation, giving relief from aches and pains, opening up the skin's pores, amongst other things.
With no one around here, you can hear the birds sing, you can feel the magic of this quiet place to its full extent.
I've since been told that the lake can attract some unsavouries but we had no trouble at all, just take a few buddies with you and go in the daylight hours.
Ask around town for directions, the lake is in behind Tallow Beach,
