This is the Jaipur mansion of the Alsisars, a noble family who ruled over their own corner of Rajasthan for nearly four centuries. Around the turn of the 19th century, great grandfather Alsisar decided the family needed a Jaipur retreat away from the fort in the Shekhawati region that the family had called home since the 17th century.

The halls you walk through, the drawing rooms you sit in, the rooms you sleep in were once strictly the domain of this noble family. Block printed textiles and antique furniture decorate the rooms, old family pictures in ornate frames hang on the walls, there’s a labyrinth of hallways and staircases to lose yourself in.

The Rajasthani royalty vibe is quite easy to adopt and before long you’re floating through the halls and rooms like you live here.

The crazy thing is, the family still live in Alsisar Haveli today, in their own wing, managing the hotel and the family’s other myriad endeavors – Tokree, the hotel’s boutique filled with very cool local textiles, kaftans and homewares as well as annual music festival Magnetic Fields at the family’s second property, the Alsisar Mahal, a 17th century fort in the Shekhawati region.

You can also pay a visit to the family's third property Nahargarh, just outside Ranthambhore National Park, the former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, now a protected heritage site and one of India’s best Tiger Reserves.
