Yamba — The Travelling Light

This pretty coastal town was the place to honeymoon in 1950's Australia, and it feels as though things have been slow to change since. This is a good thing.

There's no 'scene' here, just town-proud locals and chilled out visitors.

The beaches are fairly undeveloped and surfers rule the waves and the streets. The surrounding towns are just as mellow, perhaps even more untouched by time.

Your own little patch of undisturbed nature is easy to find here too, where you can hike through stretches of coast-side tracks and never see another human.

Main Beach

Spend the morning at the main beach in town, located inside a pretty bay with ocean pool, lifesavers and the iconic Pacific Hotel (very good pub food here) up high on the hill above.

Walk the Streets

Yamba's suburban streets are filled with cute coastal houses and holiday units unchanged in decades.

Clarence River Fishermens Co-op

Stop in and pick up some prawns for lunch from this seafood co-operative, sit outside by the river with giant pelicans watching on if you're lucky.

Angourie

Drive to the next little town down the road for secluded surfing and swimming, where you can hike to your own little stretch of beach or high around Angourie Point. You'll find natural swimming pools here too just inland from the beach. The perfect spot to play shipwrecked.
